The Detroit Pistons will play their second game in two days when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. These two teams played each other head-to-head on Sunday, with the Nets winning 117-91 as a 12-point home favorite. The Nets shot the ball exceptionally well against the Pistons, making 65.3% of their shots from the floor and 52% from three. Kevin Durant led the scoring with 23 points, followed by James Harden with 18 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. Brooklyn also got big games off the bench from LaMarcus Aldridge, who shot 7 of 8 from the floor with 16 points, and DeAndre Bembry, who went 6 of 8 from the floor with 15 points.

Detroit shot 40.5% from the floor and 36.4% on threes in the loss the Brooklyn. Cory Joseph led all Pistons with 13 points off the bench, followed by Josh Jackson with 12 points and Jerami Grant with 11 points.

The Brooklyn Nets will head into this game with a 5–3 record and 4-4 mark against the spread. The over is 1-7 in Brooklyn’s games. Before Detroit’s Thursday night game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Pistons were just 1-6 overall, 2-5 against the spread, and 3-4 on the over/under.

This prediction was written before the completion of Detroit’s game on Thursday night and does not include stats from that game

Nets going for fourth straight win

After losing three of their first five games to start the season, the Brooklyn Nets have picked up momentum by winning their last three games. On Wednesday, the Nets picked up a 117-108 win over the Atlanta Hawks as a 4.5 point home favorite. Brooklyn outshot Atlanta 48.9% to 43.6% from the field and 45.8% to 37.1% from three-point range in the win. Kevin Durant led the scoring with 32 points, followed by Joe Harris with 18 points, and James Harden with 16 points and 11 assists.

The Nets are averaging 106.1 ppg, shooting 46.4% from the field, ninth in the NBA, and seven at 36.2% from the three-point range. Durant leads the Nets with 28.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 59.2% from the field. James Harden is only shooting 39.3% from the floor and averaging 18.2 ppg, well below his career average of 25.1 ppg, but is grabbing 7.1 rebounds and dishing out a team-best 8.8 assists. LaMarcus Aldridge has been a vital player off the bench, averaging 12.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 65.5% from the floor.

After losing their first four games to start the season, the Pistons beat the Orlando Magic 110-103 as a six-point favorite last Saturday but followed that up with a 117-91 loss to Brooklyn on Sunday and a 117-89 loss to an injury-riddled Milwaukee Bucks team on Tuesday.

Milwaukee outshot Detroit 50% to 32.3% from the field and 45.9% to 17% from three-point range. The Bucks also dominated the boards holding a 43-29 advantage. Jerami Grant finished with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting and was the only Pistons starter to reach double digits in the loss. Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 Draft, played in his second game, making his first start, and struggled shooting 2 of 14 from the floor and 0 for 9 from three-point range finishing with six points.

On the season, Detroit is dead-last in the NBA, scoring 95.1 ppg, shooting 39.4% from the field, and 26.7% from three-point range. 7% from the field. Jerami Grant leads the team in scoring averaging 16.8 ppg, followed by Saddiq Bey, who is averaging 14.1 ppg and 7.9 rebounds per game.

The Nets beat the Pistons by 26 points Sunday in Brooklyn, and I don’t think the Pistons will be able to keep this game very close either. Detroit hasn’t shown many positives in the early going and has failed to cover the spread in 10 of their last 11 games as an underdog. The Nets have been playing well recently, and going back to last season have covered the spread in 16 of their last 21 games against a losing team. With Detroit coming off of a Thursday night game against the 76ers, I expect them to be beaten soundly on Friday night by one of the most talented rosters in the NBA. Take the Nets.

The total 212 doesn’t look like much in today’s NBA, but I think that number will be hard to reach on Friday night.

The Pistons and Nets only combined for 208 points on Sunday, and that was with Brooklyn shooting a season-best 47-72 (65.3%) from the field. The Nets have also been the best team to bet the under on so far, with 87.5% of their games falling below that total. Brooklyn is ranked eighth in the NBA in defensive efficiency and will make it hard on the Pistons who are dead-last in points scored per game, field-goal, and three-point percentage.

I will grab the under here, predicting a 107-93 Brooklyn win.
